7-Aside Football Tournament - MILAN/ITALY

SLFA UK team performed extremely well to come third in the overall Italian 7-a-side Football Tournament in Milan on Sunday 16th May 2010.  The team was captained by Gananath Ediriwira, who led the team with great skills and was well supported by Abeetha Katuwana and Asanka Fernando who exhibited best football in the tournament. 

The team won two games and drew one game in their group C preliminary round. 

SLFA UK beat Novara 3-0
                  beat Modena 5-0
                  drew New Youngs  2-2
Quarter Finals SLFA UK beat JVC 4-1
Semi Final – SLFA UK lost to Ceylonians 0-2.

Third Place – Play offs’
                       SLFA UK won on penalties 2-1

Overall, the team played well in the tournament and were awarded the following trophies for their outstanding performance.

Goal Scorers

Asanka Fernando – 5, Rukman Rishantha – 4, Abeetha Katuwana – 3, Don Esuru Amendra -.1, Mohamed Reza -1, Abeetha Pitigala –1  and Skye Ediwira -1.

We must congratulate the team captain Gananath Ediriwira and the SLFA UK team for their excellent performance.  We thank Mr Stanley Kosgodage(coach) for the excellent coaching and support given to the team and also Mr Ranjith Katuwana and Mr Asoka Welmillage for organising & coordinating. 

The SLFA UK team was accompanied by the Hony President Mr Upali Jothiratne and Hony Secretary, Dr Ananda Thevathasan.   This is a tremendous achievement for SLFA UK to further the cause of Youth Football development in the UK for Sri Lankans, in addition to our programme in Sri Lanka.
