AGM of Old Royalists’ Association in the UK (ORAUK)

The Annual General meeting of the Old Royalists’ Association in the UK (ORAUK) was held at Beaufort House in London EC3A which has been the venue for this event for the last six years.

The AGM was well-attended. Last year’s Treasurer Dr Nihal Samarasinghe presented his report on ORAUK’s financial report and accounts (audited by Honorary Auditor Chris Ferdinando).

This was followed up by the committee report by the outgoing President Earle Ameresekera. His report also highlighted the achievements of last year. The ORAUK have been liaising closely with Royal College and have made significant contributions to the Rugby fund, Cricket fund, Scholarships for hostellers, inter alia and most recently funded a brand new bowling machine for the benefit of Royal Cricket. This has replaced the machine which was sent to the College in 1991.

The association has gone from strength to strength and our operations further expanded he added. The launch of the improved website which features an online membership system, ORAUK news and an online shop has been a huge success. Our membership continues to expand and the association is in a very healthy state.

In the sporting arena, Royal has reorganised its Rugby team and fielded a Football team at the Football Festival. The Cricket team, the defending champions of FoC Challenge Trophy went on to record another victory against arch rivals Thomians at the 26th Annual Battle of the Blues UK. Royal’s dominance was extended yet again in the Veterans Twenty20 match as the Royal Veterans team went on to win the Warden de Alwis trophy for a fifth consecutive year which made it a unique Royal treble for Royal Cricket in the UK in 2009/2010. Formation of the ORCC (Old Royalists’ Cricket Club), an independent entity, has been another significant step taken to help consolidate and organise our Cricket activities and ever-expanding talent pool. ORCC is playing its inaugural season in Division 1 of the Surrey Cricket League.

Blue & Gold Ball and the Autumn Events continue to be well supported and attended by old Royalists, their families and friends.

Following office bearers and committee were elected unopposed for the year 2010/2011.
